Uber cabs
Anyone use these? Any horror stories? Might have to take the plunge as I will be in town until late tonight -

Re: Uber cabs
Only been in one Uber cab which a mate booked just after we landed at Gatwick.

The Mercedes minivan was clean and newish. The driver knew were he was going. And it was cheaper than booking through our normal taxi company.

Plus it fucks up Rodfarts job.

Not sure if they do the surge pricing thing in the UK. If they do then using them tonight might be expensive...

Re: Uber cabs
Got one after Wireless on Friday. Turned up in 4 minutes and got to Liverpool St extremely quickly all for £8 paid straight from PayPal.

No chance of that in a black cab.

I binned my B & B landlady last week because she started using a Polish cleaner. I guess we've all got different standards to upkeep.

Re: Uber cabs
Used it in London and France.

Its easy, link it to paypal

Even shows map of driver on way, his pic and number

Cheap to use, you get a choice or vehicle or price in busy areas, drivers are polite and cars are cleaner than mini cabs

In the Red corner, tax dodging, regulation flouting, global leeches. In the Blue corner, Cabbies.

It's a lose lose situation.

I love Uber whenever I need a cab in London. Usually use the tube but superb whenever I've used them and you don't get cab drivers telling you their shitty life story on the way too! Bliss

Re: Uber cabs
'and you don't get cab drivers telling you their shitty life story...'

would that be because they can't speak English?

In the Pink corner, gay marriage. In the Black corner, ISIS.

Re: Uber cabs
Use it . It's great. Might force black cab drivers to lower their fucking extortionate prices as well.

Only bad thing I heard was that someone I know had his account hacked somehow and kept getting charged hundreds of pounds for cabs he wasn't booking. He was invited to go on watchdog but declined...

Re: Uber cabs
Uber is a fantastic service. I must have used it a 100 times by this stage and never had any problems, and even when the driver takes a longer route they instantly refund you the difference.

Cheaper, better service, more comfortable and more convenient than a black cab. Simply no reason to ever use a black cab again. Would even say that, on average, an Uber driver is often more pleasant and customer focused than a black cabbie. If I were taking the knowledge today I would stop immediately.

Yup agree with that. The rating system is clever. If the driver is a cunt then everyone is going to know about it.

I used the American version in a presentation about 3/4 years ago about the future of mobile phones and apps to proctor and gamble.

It was in the section about how your phone will replace your wallet.

Just before my augmented reality chapter.

I'm always ahead of the game.

Re: Uber cabs
I love it. Excellent service and even integrates with google maps route planner.

Cars are always clean. Not sure Id be happy with the wife using them on her own as Im sure anyone with a bit of hacking etc could set up as one but otherwise all good.

The drivers seem to like it as well. They pay commission on fares rather than a set fee like traditional mini cabs and can work any hours they want without someone moaning at them.

Re: Uber cabs
I find it amusing that black cab drivers are trying really hard to generate and spread negative publicity about Uber.

These would be the same lovable rogue black cab drivers that in private will bang on incessantly about how much they earn, how little tax they pay, etc.

Along comes a cheaper and less annoying service provider and they get all bent out of shape and act like it's the punters who are wrong/disloyal/stupid.

Their gravy train is coming to a halt and they've only got themselves to blame.

i-Ron 2:56 Wed Jul 8
Re: Uber cabs
As I understand it the Black Cabs are pissed off with this as they're not ahead of the game and it's a fear of technology.

Fordstar might shed a light on it.
